リズモー市の行政エリアは、古くからの市街地であるゲネルバー地区と4つの大きな村（Clunes, Donoon, Nimbin, and North Woodburn）、そして19の小さな散村によって形成されています。リズモー市は時の経過とともに小さな都市が統合しあい大きく成長した都市です。昔ながらの建造物や歴史が、新たなビルや文化とうまく混ざりあい今のリズモー市を形成しています。

The Local Government Area comprises Lismore, the suburb of Goodellabah, and the four large villages of Clunes, Donoon, Nimbin, and North Woodburn as well as 19 other smaller villages through out the area. Over time the Lismore area has grown by amalgamating smaller areas to become part of a bigger area. This has meant that while the older areas and building still remain, newer buildings and cultures are being successfully integrated.

市内を大きく蛇行しながら流れるリッチモンドリバーは、古くから木材の輸送に利用されその川沿いに町がつくられていきました。リズモー市は川沿いの木材の集積地として古くから発達してきた街で、NSW州北部のNorthern Rivers地区における商業、文化、スポーツの中心地としての役割を果たしてきました。

市街地から東へ進むとなだらかな丘の斜面にマカデミアの木々、バナナ農園、アボカドやピーチの木々、それに加えコーヒー農園を目にすることができます。沿岸地帯に近づくにつれサトウキビ畑が広がります。市街地から田園地方へと車を走らせるとあたり一面が緑に染まり、心癒される光景です。オーストラリアでは常緑樹が多いためほぼ一年を通して緑を楽しむことができます。

市街地から内陸部へと進むと、草を食む牛の姿が見え、のどかな牧場風景に出会うことができます。牧場地帯を抜けると丘陵地が山並みへと姿をかえ、その先には美しいレインフォレストが眼前に広がります。

Dunoonのあたりは古くからマカデミアンナッツの栽培地として開かれてきた土地で、「マカデミアンナッツの都」と呼ばれてきました。この地区のマカデミアンナッツの木々は大人の背丈の2倍ほどもあります。

収穫されたナッツは外皮が取り除かれ、Goonellabhにある工場で加工されます。
ここで収穫、加工されたナッツは地元の市場へ、そして世界で販売されます。

The Wilson River winds through the city which was in the past used as a transportation system for moving timber, as a result this has created smaller towns further down river. The City of Lismore has grown from its small beings in the timber trade to a large centre for commerce, sport and culture in the Northern Rivers Area of New South Wales.

As we travel east towards the coast, we will travel over rolling hills and see macadamia trees, banana plantations, avocado and peach trees as well as coffee bean trees and sugar cane as you get closer to the coast. Whilst travelling between towns the countryside is very green and lush most of the year around, this can be very relaxing as there are very few houses around.

If we drive inland we will see cows on farms and then as the area becomes more mountainous you will see the beautiful rain forests.

The area around the village of Dunoon has many macadamia plantations and is referred to as ‘the capital of macadamia nuts’. These farms have trees more than twice the height of a human.

The nuts when they are harvested have the shells removed then processed in a factory near Goonellabah. The nuts sold locally and internationally.
